Gigs + Experiences

Yew Tee 41st National Day 06 Observance Ceremony

We injected energy to the lovely Yew Tee neighbourhood on an early National Day morning. There was quite a large crowd who were all decked proudly in red and doing their part for the nation by participating in the annual walk around the constituency. It was quite a sight to see so many red shirts walking, so much so that if you wore some other colour you stood out like a sore thumb.

Well, we were not in red and white, but we had fun on stage nonetheless. It was interesting to see a drastically different demographics in the crowd, something we were not quite used to. The emcee even surprised us with a request for a chinese song.

The Guest of Honour for the event was Mr Yeo Chow Tong, our former transport minister. He was very vibrant and enthusiastic about having us around. Seems like we are the 1st live band to ever play for their event in their 41 years of National Day Observance Ceremony. Yeah, it's about time the local music scene opened up.

Mirage - JASH 06

Mirage 06 is an inaugural welcome dinner for NTU Hall Freshmen. A gig with the largest attendance so far, with about 1500 NTU freshies eager to start their semester. What a way to mark their 1st day of school. To us, it was more of a reunion gig since jeff and ivan had just come back from US and Indonesia and we had barely enough time to practise.

Despite the lack of practise, we put up a tight set with 'Shinin' and recently revamped 'She's the One'. We had changed the outro to a Indo/Java-ish kinda rhythm to suit Ivan's chimes solo. It was just a refreshing way to end the song. Besides, that's where the fun of music-making is; to infuse your own creativity and talents into the song to make it unique.

We were right about 'This Love'; It was a definite crowd pleaser and many were singing along. The best part was people were body surfing to it! Never thought I wld see that in NTU, but well, life's full of surprises.

Cultural Night 05 (Hall 7)

Hey! here's some pics from hall 7 cultural night yesterday. It was our last performance for this semester but we'll soon be in action again after exams. It was fun to perform in front of so many familiar faces. Started the set with our rock instrumental and the crash cymbal stand came loose after a few mins into the set.

There was this surge of energy the moment we walked up the stage, adrenalin rush probably. Anw we injected that energy level into our performance on stage and did our best to entertain the audience. Jeffrey stood on the bass amp for the intro of 'Shining on Me'.

Yep, still there.

Lawrence had something up his sleeves last night man. Halfway into 'Shining on Me', our dear guitarist took the chair out and surprised the audience including myself as he stood on it and extended his arms out in a 'flying' position during the quiet bridge.

Notice the wooden little chair at the back ;)

Red Cross Youth Donor Club Launch

We played 3 adrenaline-filled sets of our new originals including the launch of YDC theme song "Live It Up" to an appreciative crowd outside Heeren's on 4th Mar 06. It was an awesome experience playing there on a busy Saturday.

NMP Ms Eunice Olsen opened the event ceremony and she was truly approachable. She expressed interest in our originals and that coming from a distinguished musician like herself was a huge compliment for us. Youth Donor Club is a new initiative by Red Cross to encourage young people ages 16-25 to donate blood.

Our 2 instrumentals (untitled as of now) definitely rocked the sets as evident by the cheers from the audience. The first instrumental was based on progressive metal elements and filled with furious snare rolls and hard bass riffs. The second instrumental was more hard rock influenced and features 4 bars of creative solos from each instrument.

We dedicated "She's the One" to our girlfriends who were present to support us despite the hot weather and busy schedules. Lawrence is an ace at writing killer love songs and I must say its the perfect song to dedicate to our other halves.

NTU Arts Amalgam 06

Our virgin performance of "She's the One" and "Shining On Me" (feat. Lawrence on vocals). Arts Amalgam 06 is a 3 day festival showcasing the Visual Arts Society of NTU.

Surf and Sweat 06

This time, we decided to invade Sentosa and try playing in front of the beach. It's a totally different environment from the usual gig venue, where the equipment and instruments are subject to the elements and also the pervasive sand particles. It was also our last set with Bryan, our former rhythm guitarist.

Jam Fest 06

Jam Fest was organised by : Jun Han, Kelvin, Royston, Jeffrey, Tommy and Shaun. It was a kick ass day of gigs put up by some of the halls in NTU. One of the best gigs we've played at so far with excellent sound engineering and yes! fully miked drums and monitors loud enough for all of us on stage to hear ourselves. The usual gigs we play at are, sad to say, let down by incompetant soundman who think they know what's going on but actually have no clue as to what is causing the head - piercing feedback or cant be bothered to do anything at all.

Inter School Games Closing Ceremony 05

We played for the ISG closing ceremony 05 at SRC with our guest vocalist Sanny. We had to learn new songs for her repertoire such as Buses and Trains, A Thousand Miles, and the like in a pretty short duration of time. It was fun doing a medley of female pop songs though, something we haven't done before.

Recording Session @ SCI

We were invited by an external lecturer to play at a studio in School of Communications and Information (NTU) for a demonstration on how to conduct proper audio recording of a band to a group of final year students. Some of the students later helped to record 'Shining on Me' and 'Live It Up'.

Hall 7 Mid Autumn Festival

We rocked the set with our heavy progressive metal instrumental : Kelvin pedalling furiously on his double bass pedals; our former guitarist, Shawn, playing metal riffs on his Ibanez RG; Jeffrey slapping hard on the bass and Ivan with his fingers flying all over the keys.

Hall 7 Investiture Performance

Our debut performance in front of a small friendly crowd. We did a cover of Radiohead's "High and Dry". Leroy has bad memories of this one :P
